Flooring Installation in Puerto Vallarta
Flooring choice is one of the most important decisions for any Puerto Vallarta property β it defines the look of the space, affects comfort and temperature, and must perform reliably through years of tropical humidity, UV exposure, and heavy use. Our flooring team installs all major floor types for residences, vacation rentals, hotels, restaurants, and commercial properties throughout the Banderas Bay area. We combine expert installation technique with deep knowledge of what works long-term in this specific climate.
Flooring Types We Install
Porcelain & Ceramic Tile
Large-format porcelain tile is our top recommendation for Puerto Vallarta properties and the dominant choice across the region. Here's why: it's completely waterproof, stays cool underfoot in the heat, handles heavy foot traffic, resists UV fading, needs minimal maintenance, and modern 60Γ60 cm and 60Γ120 cm formats create a clean, contemporary aesthetic that photographs beautifully.
We install rectified large-format tiles with minimum grout joints (2β3 mm) for a seamless look, properly mixed polymer-modified thinset for full adhesion, and epoxy grout in wet areas for permanent stain resistance. Leveling clips and spacers ensure zero lippage β the hallmark of professional tile installation versus weekend DIY work.
Marble & Natural Stone
Marble and natural stone floors add unmistakable luxury to Puerto Vallarta's premium properties. We install Carrara, Calacatta, Emperador, and local Mexican marbles, as well as travertine, onyx, quartzite, and slate. All natural stone installations include diamond-polishing of field cuts for clean edges, impregnating sealer application on installation day, and grout color matching to the stone for an integrated, high-end result.
For outdoor terraces and pool decks, we install brushed or tumbled stone (not polished) for anti-slip safety. See also our marble and granite countertop services for matching counter and floor installations.
Saltillo & Mexican Clay Tile (Barro)
Handmade Saltillo tiles (barro cocido) are the authentic flooring of traditional Mexican architecture and add irreplaceable warmth and character to Puerto Vallarta homes. Each tile is unique β slight variations in color, texture, and thickness are part of their handcrafted charm. Installation requires leveling for thickness variation, epoxy adhesive for outdoor use, and multiple coats of penetrating sealer plus topcoat wax to protect the porous surface.
Talavera decorative tiles β hand-painted in Puebla's tradition β are used as accent borders, stair risers, and feature panels to add regional color and identity to interiors.
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) & Engineered Wood
For bedrooms and living areas where the warmth of wood is desired without solid hardwood's humidity problems, LVP is our preferred solution. Modern waterproof LVP in 6β8 mm thick formats with realistic wood grain embossing and click-lock installation is ideal for Puerto Vallarta's climate: completely waterproof, dimensionally stable in humidity, comfortable underfoot, and available in dozens of wood-look species.
Engineered wood (a real wood veneer bonded to a plywood core) is the natural choice for clients who want authentic hardwood appearance and feel. We use 100% waterproof adhesive installation (glue-down) rather than floating for better long-term stability in tropical humidity. Proper acclimation of engineered wood to the installation environment for 5β7 days before installation is essential β a step we never skip.
Terrazzo & Polished Concrete
Terrazzo β polished concrete matrix with aggregate chips of marble, glass, or granite β is enjoying a major design revival in Puerto Vallarta's contemporary architecture. Poured-in-place terrazzo can cover large areas seamlessly, be colored to any specification, and achieves a mirror-like polish that reflects light beautifully in open-plan spaces. Precast terrazzo tiles offer similar aesthetics with faster installation. Polished concrete floors (existing slab polished and sealed) are a cost-effective, industrial-chic option for commercial and contemporary residential spaces.
Outdoor Flooring β Terraces, Pools & Gardens
Puerto Vallarta's indoor-outdoor lifestyle means exterior flooring receives as much attention as interior. Anti-slip requirements are non-negotiable for areas adjacent to pools, outdoor showers, and rain-exposed terraces. We install:
- Non-slip porcelain pavers (R11 slip rating) for pool decks and terraces β durable, low-maintenance, and available in large formats
- Travertine β stays cool underfoot even in direct sun, naturally anti-slip when brushed or tumbled
- Concrete paving β stamped, stained, and sealed for decorative outdoor areas
- Composite decking β wood-plastic composite for areas where a warm wood feel is desired without maintenance issues
Substrate Preparation β The Foundation of a Quality Floor
A perfectly installed tile or stone floor over a poorly prepared substrate will fail. Our preparation process includes: grinding high spots and filling low spots with polymer self-leveling compound, verifying flatness with a 2-meter straightedge to within 3 mm tolerance, moisture testing of concrete slabs, and priming for optimum thinset bond. This preparation work adds time and cost but is the difference between floors that last decades and floors that hollow-out, crack, or delaminate in 2β3 years.
